Theme Thursday: Destination Weddings

Destination weddings are a great way for you and your guests to take an amazing trip together, while also celebrating your wedding. We love how beautiful destination weddings can be, and are sharing a few tips for making sure your big day is perfect!

Make sure to book early, especially if you are planning a wedding in a location with temperamental weather. The earlier, the better, as you will be able to ensure plenty of room for your guests and the best locations for your wedding and reception. This also means informing your guests of the location early, so that they can book all of their travel needs. Make sure to get your save the dates out at least 10-12 months in advance so they can prepare.

This adorable couple even featured their destination in their engagement photos!

With that being said, consider the weather! Different islands have rainy seasons at different times, and some European locations can be uncomfortably hot in the summer.

Having a wedding planner/coordinator will ease the entire process. They will be able to find great local vendors and can coordinate with the location so that some of your planning stress is relieved.

There are some additional costs with a destination wedding, besides the obvious travel and hotel expenses. Activities for your guests at your destination, welcome bags for your guests, and the costs of additional trips to your destination for planning are all things to consider when determining your budget.

Also, depending on your destination wedding location, there may be special rules for you and your significant other to get married. For example, England has a seven day residency requirement…. worth it to be married at such a stunning castle though!

A destination wedding may affect your attire as well. For example, with a beach wedding, a long train may be difficult. And if you’re guests will be facing the sun, make sure they have hats/sunglasses!

This wedding was only a few years ago but the traditional elegance and the photographer’s style make it look timeless. City destination weddings can be just as beautiful as tropical weddings!

Overall, destination weddings may require a little extra planning, but look how beautiful they are!

One last idea, have your invitations and day of paper feature the destination in their design for an extra cohesive element!
