Patch Palette: Urban Elegance in Black and Gold

It’s been a while since we’ve published a Patch Palette post, so today we’re bringing you some golden goodies! A wedding of moody, romantic washes of black with shiny sweeps of gold fits beautifully with the current time of the year as well – a perfect palette to accompany our transition into the more solemn, tranquil qualities of the wintertime. Metallic accents also surround the event with an essence of poised elegance, thereby transforming the otherwise dark, dreary atmosphere into a golden stitchwork of urban texture

Trend Alert: One-Tiered Wonders

We’re used to seeing wedding cakes in size “Tall”, in all their three- or four-tier glory. Here, we’ve compiled a series of single-tiered cakes, decorated just as exquisitely – only more petite, and more approachable! Although larger cakes gather attention right away, their smaller alternatives are also extremely impressive, as all of the raw talent of these artists are essentially condensed into one little tier. You’ll be shocked to see just how mind-blowingly ornate and well-crafted these delectable creations can be!

Hands up high if you’re already drooling!

Don’t be fooled by these rosy buttercream prints! Unlike the previous piece, the marks on this “LOVE”-ly cake are created from finger-painting.

This absolutely irresistable features six layers of chocolate filled with equally chocolatey ganache! Warning: frequent use of “chocolate” as adjective to describe said cake quick to follow.

Golden drips make for a golden wedding, yes?

According to the creator’s description, this cake features purple buttercream paired with turquoise isomalt. Oh, and did we mention it had upside-down drips?

The only cherry bomb dot com – with this incredible design and palette, why not throw in some matching cupcakes too?

This cake would probably look just as enticing even with just the painterly florals.

Real Wedding Wednesday: D.C. Gallery Romantic Autumn Reverie

Julie and Forrest looked as if they’d stepped straight off the set of this season’s top romance movie as they strolled through serene surroundings in the capital city. Elements of their ornately-planned party are lavished in a rich palette of blush and wine, accented with an occasional pop of pine green and glimmers of gold. These colors fit refreshingly into the cozy fall colors of the open outdoors, but stood out elegantly against the candle-lit indoor ceremony and reception area at the LongView Gallery, an industrial art gallery that every now and then hosted such unique events. All credit and kudos of documentation goes to the photographer of this wedding, Eric Kelley – such beautifully-captured images most assuredly requires a public audience!

We’d also like to shower praises on each of our fellow vendors for extraordinary workmanship and team spirit! This wedding embodies a rich quality of timelessness that leaves one in silent awe, and we couldn’t have made it without all of you!

Real Wedding Wednesday: Downtown D.C. Modern Metallic Mix

Katie and Steve wanted a wedding of contemporary feels while at the same time highlighting the historical significance of a city they both grew up around – and so, with each endearing moment captured Abby Jiu Photography, the pair celebrated this special day at Potomac View Terrace at the American Pharmacist Association. Here, with its beautiful rooftop and historic facade, the couple donned an artfully arranged palette of gold and rose gold with brilliant berry hues, all juxtaposed against stark blacks. As an added voice to their originality, a traditional string quartet serenaded the pair with some of their favorite Kanye West hits, while exquisite edibles of mid-Atlantic and Southern origins later surrounded the people’s senses. Bedecked with floral-tipped terrariums through and through, this wedding was truly a modern visual masterpiece!

We would like to give a big shout-out to our team of vendors, as none of this could have been possible without your tasteful contributions! And to our lovely bride and groom, may this day set the basis of bright aesthetics for the future!

Real Wedding Wednesday: Dumbarton House Black Tie Golden Galore

We’re back in Georgetown, D.C. for today’s real wedding feature! Sammi and Gary’s dazzling day of nuptials brought guests from across the globe to Dumbarton House, where they enjoyed the pleasant outdoor weather surrounded by gossamer greens of the gardens. With a palette of light gold interspersed with periwinkle blue, the cheery atmosphere touches even those of us who were not present at the wedding! After the ceremony, Sammi switches from her elegant, white traditional garb into a shimmery golden gown, expressive of the joy and cheer of the day! Audra Wrisley Photography captured these glamorous moments with artful skill.

This glitteringly detailed event could not have been possible without the contributions of our fellow vendors! As for Sammi and Gary, may the golden glow of this day accompany you throughout your marriage!

Trend Alert: Table Dressings

While typically our discussions pertain to decor that sit ON tabletop surfaces, today we bring you decor OF these surfaces: a pinch of razzle-dazzle to “dress-up” those plain ol’ things. Finding a suitable table fabric certainly contributes much to a wedding reception’s overall aesthetic, which can be accredited to the fabric’s nature of making. In other words, what type of material is this? Each piece of cloth will carry within itself a different set of initial associations (i.e. burlap is for rustic outdoor/barnyard weddings only; tulle only fits the younger age group). But of course, there really isn’t any official structured rules or “correct answers”, nor any limitation in pairing your choice in fabric with the other elements of your ceremony – so have some fun considering your options! Trust your instincts, and pick the one(s) that feels right to you!

Burlap often creates a more homely atmosphere when used under a roof with twinkling lights!

It looks as if the table had gone ahead and gotten its own extravagant, rose-swirl patterned “dress” for the evening!

Silky smooth satin makes even arbitrary folds and pools of the fabric look lavishly elegant!

Ironically, velvet material nowadays seems to take on a chic, modern edge as opposed to a reference to medieval times.

A simple cotton basket weave black and white table-runner such as the one above will certainly get the decorating job done!

Small, circle sew-on pieces resolve themselves into a frock-like material complete with its gorgeously ruffled texture! And here’s another idea: instead of generating light from object on top, have the light source function from underneath!

Sheer linen has a way of crumpling up that, rather than looking ragged, actually ends up carrying more stylish candidness in these photo shoots!

Trend Alert: A Painted Cake Masterpiece

Browsing wedding cake designs can be pretty overwhelming and chaotic, but we’ve narrowed down options to a currently rising trend: hand-painted cakes! However, the irony here is that by introducing this trend, we’ve also expanded your horizon of design choices. Your cake is now a blank canvas, and every other decision made in terms of color or additional adornments are now influenced by your “painting”. Check out these stunningly delectable selections you’d be able to call your own on one of the most important days of your life!

Gentle watercolor washes arranged in layers and gradients possess an innate soothing quality.

Floral arrangements at weddings don’t apply to bouquets only! We find that combining the use of painted patterns and actual flower embellishments often produces the most ideal day-of-celebration cake!

Featured Below: Pinterest

Black-and-white painted cakes liken to a pencil or ink drawing from a sketchbook; with a bit of imagination, you’d think the drawing of poppies were about to come to life (full color spectrum-style)!

Repeating patterns work excellently painted on. So do metallics!

Paint a scene! Perhaps this is the city where you first met?

Chalk it up with some chalkboard paint! Consider this a modern twist of a romantic chalkboard message!

Featured Below: Burnett’s Board

The words on this cake are just barely readable, but yours do not have to be! Remember, it’s the message that counts, and if you can write a beautiful poem to express your love for one another, what better way to draw people’s attention than to put it on your wedding day cake?

Featured Below: Mon Cheri Bridals

As hand-painted work, there just had to be something inspired by famous art work or art movements in the past! Here’s a cake painted over in the uneven, lineated style of the Art Nouveau.

This “painter’s palette” look is the key in giving the cake its carefree, retro edge.

Wow your guests (and essentially the whole world-wide-web, once pictures are posted) with a painted masterpiece! Here at The Dandelion Patch, we’ll help you match your paper goods and complete the look of your wedding! Follow and connect with us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter!

Featured: Grey Likes Musical Romance Inspiration

Working on this inspiration shoot was one of the highlights of our summer, especially with the honor of being featured on Grey Likes Weddings! Any time we get to work with our friendors is such a good time, especially when the product turns out to be this gorgeous! Bonnie Sen Photography and Bright Occasions created the concept of a musically-inspired styled shoot to capture the essence of a romantic summer wedding. Petals by the Shore set the stage for a beautiful backdrop with their choice of lush soft colored blooms. The Patchettes put together this wedding suite with a soft blush watercolor detail and gold lettering with an overall European influence. We can practically hear the piano music now!

We absolutely adored working with this talented group of friendors and can’t wait to make more magic with them in the future!
