Real Wedding Wednesday: The Willard InterContinental, Elegance and Simplicity

Today for our real wedding Wednesday we are at The Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, DC where Caroline and Phil exchanged their vows.  With the outstanding photography of Robert Chicoine, the event was captured beautifully!  The soft lighting and warm tones from inside The Willard made the perfect setting for this elegant event.  With a simple wedding palette, they kept the overall aesthetic of their reception very classy! Caroline and Phil’s wedding day was truly stunning!

Trend Alert: Carpet Composition

Interestingly enough, psychological experiments have revealed that walking on carpeting induces less stress than walking on hard wood flooring, so it’s certainly no wonder that carpets and rugs have gained attention in the magical realm of wedding decor. Not only are they comforting to the spirit (for wedding couple and guests alike), but they also exist for their versatility as flooring. Would you consider a single elaborate, statement-making piece, or perhaps feature multiple for a more artistic, hodge-podge aesthetic? Powerful compositions of texture and intricate ornamentation give way to gorgeous, one-of-a-kind photography!

Trend Alert: Table Dressings

While typically our discussions pertain to decor that sit ON tabletop surfaces, today we bring you decor OF these surfaces: a pinch of razzle-dazzle to “dress-up” those plain ol’ things. Finding a suitable table fabric certainly contributes much to a wedding reception’s overall aesthetic, which can be accredited to the fabric’s nature of making. In other words, what type of material is this? Each piece of cloth will carry within itself a different set of initial associations (i.e. burlap is for rustic outdoor/barnyard weddings only; tulle only fits the younger age group). But of course, there really isn’t any official structured rules or “correct answers”, nor any limitation in pairing your choice in fabric with the other elements of your ceremony – so have some fun considering your options! Trust your instincts, and pick the one(s) that feels right to you!

Burlap often creates a more homely atmosphere when used under a roof with twinkling lights!

It looks as if the table had gone ahead and gotten its own extravagant, rose-swirl patterned “dress” for the evening!

Silky smooth satin makes even arbitrary folds and pools of the fabric look lavishly elegant!

Ironically, velvet material nowadays seems to take on a chic, modern edge as opposed to a reference to medieval times.

A simple cotton basket weave black and white table-runner such as the one above will certainly get the decorating job done!

Small, circle sew-on pieces resolve themselves into a frock-like material complete with its gorgeously ruffled texture! And here’s another idea: instead of generating light from object on top, have the light source function from underneath!

Trend Alert Holiday Special: Gathering in Gingham

Happy Labor Day, everyone! This particular holiday has held up a steady reputation as one of the most popular dates for weddings, to which many couples have attributed to the long weekend and guests from other states having more time to complete the journey. However, in light of the spirit of patriotism (inexplicably) attached to this day, we’ve decided on a trend compromise – one that’s not blatantly patriotic, but at the same time provides a smidgen of “America” to continue the culture. Ever heard of Gingham? While most of the plaid-looking pattern fulfills the familiar red-white-and-blue anthem, fortunately for those who already made plans for a non-patriotic wedding, it is casual enough to also be incorporated into other settings!

Featured Below: Fashion-Isha

Mason jars and blue (or red) gingham ribbon are classic “America day” decor, but they’re extremely versatile too!

Featured Below: Snippet & Ink

It’s not 4th of July, but as summer days linger on, picnic potential continues to run high! How about a pleasant backyard picnic reception party?

Featured Below: Style Me Pretty

As a motif of outdoor dining, the classic “red-checkered” look evokes many settings associated with the good ol’ US of A – rustic barnyard, chic countryside, you name it!

Featured Below: Style Me Pretty

Be it home-made jam or honey, cap off wedding favors with gingham-patterned fabric for a cozy, rustic atmosphere.

Cupcake liners, basket liners, envelope liners… aside from the obvious fact that they all feature the word “liner”, did you know they also share an affinity for gingham?

Featured Below: Grey Likes Weddings

Would you have known otherwise how geometrically glamorous gingham looked on a cake?

Gingham button-ups look simply dashing on all ages!

Think of the endless possibilities in decor you’d be able to peruse once you combine patterning with florals!

Featured Below: Style Me Pretty

Let’s get ready to melt some hearts and make the ladies swoon in a hip, all-gingham three-piece!

Gingham, in its most basic form, is a pattern that one can continue to stylize and work with, so if the commonly seen navy and red palette of this pattern doesn’t suite your tastes, feel free to switch up the color tones, or even incorporate other designs in your presentation! And, like all other patterns, gingham would certainly add a burst of color to your stationary! For more inspiration, follow The Dandelion Patch on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter!

Trend Alert: Origami Accents

We haven’t heard much about origami decor these days, but don’t let that discourage you from including some in your own wedding celebration! These exquisite paper forms are totally DIY-able, meaning a) it makes for a lower-budget party, and b) it’ll be an excellent opportunity to bond with friends or family, whether from spending quality time together while folding paper or through knowing each person’s contribution behind each piece of decoration. You’ll be beyond proud to see all that well-spent time and labor come to life on the day of your party!
